Tech packs, specification sheets and sewing patterns are related but do different jobs. Confusing them can leave a manufacturer with measurements but no shapes to cut, or pattern pieces with no approved material and construction record.
1. The spec sheet
A garment specification sheet focuses on finished measurements, points of measure, sample size, size range and tolerances. It may sit inside a larger tech pack.
It tells a team what the garment should measure, but does not explain every material, seam, artwork, label or packaging decision.
2. The sewing pattern
A sewing pattern contains shaped pieces used to cut fabric, with grain direction, notches, balance points and seam allowances appropriate to the system.
Pattern development translates measurement intent into fit; grading creates related sizes from an approved base pattern. These are specialist processes.
3. The tech pack
The tech pack combines style identity, flats, materials, construction, measurements, artwork, colourways, labels and revisions.
A spec sheet can be one section. The pattern is usually a separate controlled file whose version may be referenced.
4. Which file is needed when
A factory may quote from a tech pack, then create or receive a pattern for sampling. Fit comments update measurements and pattern versions.
Some factories include pattern work in sampling and others require client files. Confirm the route before ordering.

Record file format, version, due date and approval evidence for each deliverable. This prevents the word ‘included’ from hiding a missing technical responsibility.
